Presidential Pooch Pick

President-elect Barack Obama made many promises during the course of the long campaign, but he made one that more than 100 million people around the world heard as he gave his victory speech in Chicago's Grant Park. During that speech he told his young daughters, Sasha and Malia, "You have earned the puppy that is coming with us."
So, in addition to working to solve the economic crisis, two wars, global warming, and a host of other problems, Obama has to add choosing the next presidential pooch to his to-do list.
Lucinda Woodward, an assistant professor of psychological science at Ball State University, says Obama should select a breed of dog that signifies leadership and family friendliness.
"Obama’s gift of a dog to his daughters, which was so aptly timed in his victory speech, solidifies his position as a warm, personable family man," says Woodward, who specializes in animal-human personality research. She recommends black and golden labs, collies, yorkies, dachshunds or beagles.
On the downside, she says, the next president should avoid German shepherds, rottweilers, pit bulls and Chihuahuas. One other concern: 10-year-old Malia is allergic to dogs, so the canine candidate must also be hypoallergenic.
